I'm not a fan of the genre tag either. If the concern is not leaving any writer with a blank signup and no idea what their recipient wants, wouldn't it be easier to make ot obligatory for participants to put some optional details in their signup? Even if someone's optional details are sparse, they'd tell me more than three vague genre tags.
