Many of us are already planning which fandoms to offer and request! Nominations open in a few weeks, which may be enough time to pick up a new fandom or two.

Use this post to promote your canon (and/or to coordinate nominations with other fans).

Anyone want to talk Marvel pairings and characters? Maybe coordinate a bit so we can get as much as possible under the MCU umbrella for people that are willing to write for all the movies in the cinematic universe?

I'm not for-sure signing up yet, but I've been thinking about nominating/requesting/offering some MCU pairings and characters! I'm mostly about the cosmic side of the MCU with a smattering of Black Panther, so my pairings would be like:

- almost any combo of Heimdall/Valkyrie/Thor/Loki/Gamora/Nebula
- Thor/T'Challa
- Bucky/Shuri
- maaaybe some Earth-based femslash? I'm considering Pepper/Natasha

Cosmic MCU makes it super easy to get creative. I love most of the characters attached to it. I'm personally one of those Darcy Lewis nuts, but I'll write a very wide variety of pairings. I'm also big on Doctor Strange, so he'll probably end up in my nominations.

-M'Baku/Okoye is something I've been thinking about a lot lately

but I also am not super sure about signing up

I'm mostly an original trilogy and rogue one person! Anyone else?

It might not make my shortlist for offering or requesting, but I'm definitely in the mood for some Baze/Chirrut. Lots of other fun groups/pairings/characters in the canons you mention, of course!

Here's why I love these dorks. That post is several episodes old, and I've talked more about recent canon on [community profile] allthemiraculous.

There are two Twice MVs I'd like, but I'm torn between which one to nominate; either BDZ or Signal. I'm not sure if I want to nominate both, since there are a few other fandoms I want as well.

I'm probably gonna go for my favourite semi-obscure JRPGs as usual - Falcom games, Chrono Trigger, Star Ocean series, Mother series and Undertale, maybe some Tales Of.
Friday, February 22nd, 2019 04:43 pm (UTC)
Semi-obscure? I think you mean some of the best jRPGs out there! I'm always up for reading/writing Chrono Trigger, Star Ocean 2, and Undertale fanfics, and maybe various SMT with that. Then I'd go more obscure with Dark Cloud 1 and 2, and Megaman X Command Mission, which I probably wouldn't get fanfics for, but I'd put out requests for in hopes that somebody else is as into those games as I am.

Don't worry, obscure to me means good, I can't stand stuff that sacrifices quality for popular appeal! And i often have trouble finding readers. Glad you're a fan :)

The Strange Case of Starship Iris is a space opera podcast with 9 ~40 minute episodes out, with the season finale coming out sometime in late February.

It starts off with biologist Violet Liu thinking she's about to die alone on her ship, only to get unexpectedly rescued - and even more unexpectedly meshed in government conspiracies that might explain why everyone else on Violet's ship died.

Selling points:
- Found family in the form of a crew of a small spaceship
- The main f/f ship has great banter and tropey moments
- The unfolding of the first season's mystery both makes sense and is fun to follow
- lovely secondary relationship between a trans man and an alien
- Great f&f or f/f loyalty kink potential with the first mate and the captain
- sci-fi setting and the close relationships give a lot of good jumping off points for fic

People with superpowers in therapy. Along with a mysterious government agency pulling all the strings.

The podcast for all those people who looked at X-Men still have powers mundane AU’s and wanted more.

- Unrepentantly queer. With various levels of representation
- Huge found family feelings with characters who are utter disasters
- Has one of the best villains I’ve ever seen in a podcast

Have you ever wondered what Zootopia would be like if someone other than Disney made it and decided to discuss all the complex social issues of carnivores and herbivores lliving side by side?

Well, you don't have to now, because BEASTARS is a comic that answers all those questions. Showing a world inhabited by animals that live their lives just as humans do (akin to Disney movies), we follow our protagonist, Legosi on his rocky road into adulthood. He's a sensitive gray wolf, who is a part of theater club, but appears intimidating due to his huge stature. However, as his predatory instincts activate for the first time, he finds out that sometimes adolescence is about figuring out if your feelings for a cute bunny girl are love... or craving for meat.

The main plot of this story is not only interesting on individual level, as it introduces a colourful cast of very distinct characters, it also raises many interesting questions most stories skip. How would tensions between herbivores and carnivores manifest in a world where they live side by side? Would carnivores be able to suppress their instincts? Would herbivores live in constant fear that at one point their classmate will snap and eat them? How would a giant wolf go about having sex with a small rabbit? Come on, tell us, Legosi. We need to know that last one for science.

Do you like...

* Free things?
* Chill mobile games that can be played on your commutes/breaks?
* Collecting and/or marrying an army of cute anime waifus and husbandos, who happen to be anthropomorphic representations of cuisines from around the world?

Food Fantasy is a (translated) Taiwanese F2P game for Android and iPhone. The gameplay is a hybrid of RPG and restaurant management sim. You play the role of a chef who goes from just wanting to run a restaurant to trying to save the world, in the process meeting and bonding with dozens of "food souls" - the aforementioned cute anime people, who are humanoid monsters that apparently embody the spiritual essences of specific foods. Sure, it sounds ridiculous and shallow, but every food soul has a unique and complex backstory, with all of them being fleshed out characters in their own right and coming together to create a genuinely fascinating (and often tragic) web of lore.

Some other selling points:

* There are tons of characters, all with diverse personalities and countries of origin. You can have a team consisting of a violent Malaysian yandere, a bisexual French vampire, a hedonistic Japanese monk, a cheerful American jock, and a kinky Chinese sadist. With the huge and diverse cast, it's easy to find one or two food souls who worm their way into your heart.

* You can romance and marry any of your food souls, regardless of their gender. You can also marry as many food souls as you want. So you can live your dream of a polygamous bisexual gijinka harem.

* There's tons of ship potential, both teased by the devs and straight-up canon, between the various food souls. F/F, F/M, M/M, poly...it's all here. And those ships range from happy and healthy partnerships, to frenemies, to stalker and victim. So whether you like fluff, angst, or both, there's something here for you.

* The music. Is. Rad.

The game can be downloaded here for Android, and here for iPhone.

You got me to play Food Fantasy. It's really fun and you were right about the characters. I don't dislike anyone, though I have favorites.

Yay! :D I'm glad you're enjoying it. Can I ask who your faves are? /nosy

I haven't unlocked any of the characters side stories yet, but I like Milk, Black Tea, B-52, Red Wine, Napoleon Cake, Pudding, and Orange Juice. There are a lot more that I can see grabbing my attention too.

A traumatized ex-soldier panning for gold in 1900s Hokkaido after the Russo-Japanese War stumbles upon a way to get rich quick: a group of recently escaped convicts hold between them a treasure map to a massive trove of gold stolen from the indigenous people of Hokkaido, the Ainu. When a young Ainu orphan girl helps save his life, the two decide to team up and hunt for the gold together. By doing so, they put themselves on a collision course with a rogue army squadron, several former members of the Shinsengumi, fugitive revolutionaries from the Russian Far East, and a variety of ex-cons and reprobates. There are lots of bears! People fight them! There's also a lot of cooking and food porn! A bunch of hot dudes get sex pollened inside a shack at one point and have to erotically sumo wrestle to sate their lust!

Do you like...
- Well-researched and lovingly detailed historical settings?
- Adventure stories with interesting characters?
- Found families, double-crossings, loyalty kink, and other iddy interpersonal dynamics?
- Stories that vacillate between heartwarming and brutally violent?
- Muscle manservice out the wazoo?

Then you should give it a shot! The manga chapters are quite short and it's very bingeable. There's also an anime series that covers the first 130-odd chapters of manga content, with some omissions.

I'm thinking of nominating the Pokémon main video game series.

At the moment, I'm thinking of requesting a story that uses the characters and settings from the first two sets of games particularly (Red, Blue, Gold, Silver).

I was thinking of nominating something like "Original Trainer - Pokémon Red Blue Gold or Silver" or "Original Trainer - 1st and/or 2nd Gen games". I'm not 100% sure that that kind of nomination is allowed, but if it is, does anyone have any suggestions for improving the wording of this nomination?

Happy to nominate other characters or relationships from the games if there's anything anyone wants.
Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 03:02 pm (UTC)
Maybe it'd be better off split up as 'Original Trainer- 1st gen games' and 'Original Trainer- 2nd gen games'? At any rate, I like that second wording better, although it does include Green, Yellow, and Crystal in the mix. Still the same settings and I think the only characters the generation wording adds are the Yellow Pikachu and Crystal's Euisine the Suicine Hunter. Although, there might be an early Coliseum game included in that, I don't remember. The first wording would definitely only cover those four games.

You could also use 'Original Kanto Trainer' and 'Original Johto Trainer' if you didn't mind references to the remakes like Heart Gold and Leaf Green. It's neater and Pokemon fans would know what games are being requested. I'm not sure if that includes Hey You Pikachu and Eevee because I haven't paid that much attention to those games.

I would be happy to see the main game series nominated. I'd suggest adding in the other regions to the OT list to include fans of other generations, and wouldn't mind using nomination slots to help you cover them. And I'd probably request 'Original Hoenn Trainer' myself because Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are my favorites. Maybe the Magikarp Salesman as well just because that'd be a funny character nomination that could make for a good story.
Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 08:16 pm (UTC)
Oh, splitting them up makes a lot more sense - thank you!

I'm a little worried that asking for 'Original Kanto Trainer' etc doesn't convey the same sense of sticking to the worldbuilding in the early games - after all, a Kanto trainer can always travel to Unova. But maybe I'm worrying too much - it's not like there'll be dozens of conflicting requests/offers.

We get 4 chars/rels, hm, so that would break down as:

Original Hoenn Trainer
Original Kanto Trainer
Original Johto Trainer
Magikarp Salesman

I might reserve the Magikarp Salesman slot in case anyone wants me to nominate a relationship instead.

I'm planning on nominating and requesting Janet Edwards' Hive Mind series! Amber lives in a 26th-century underground Hive city/arcology. The citizens of the Hive are conditioned to fear the Outside, and at 18, the Lottery process sorts Hive citizens, and imprints each person with all the knowledge they need to do their perfect job -- a job they will love to do, and that will help their Hive the most.

Unfortunately for Amber, Lottery has a very different path for her. Amber's rare telepathic gifts mean there's only one job her Hive can give her: hunt down criminals before they can harm others -- and before they can shatter the carefully-protected illusion that the Hive is perfectly safe.

The Hive Mind series currently has three books and a prequel novella. The series may appeal to people who've enjoyed Anne McCaffrey's Talents series, and are interested in an updated take on telepathy; people who like J. D. Robb's In Death series, but want more telepaths; and anyone who likes telepaths, complicated worldbuilding, and mystery. The series is ongoing, and the most recent book in particular added some fascinating new worldbuilding to the setting.

The first part of the first novel is available to read here.

I really ought to read this… I love her Earth Girl series but I've not tried Hive Mind.
Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 01:42 am (UTC)
Ooh, I'll try this. I like telepaths - Talents was indeed formative - and worldbuilding.

I've got two empty slots in my nominations for the Arrow fandom if anyone would like me to nominate a character or relationship for them. First come first served.
