This is a multi-fandom gift exchange for fic with a 5,000-word minimum and comics with a 5-page minimum. This year's challenge can be found here on AO3.

Hey, how is matching most likely to happen(by fandom, pairing or characters) and approximately how many fandoms/pairings will have to be offered and requested?

Hey! We're still finalizing the rules, so this may change, but the current plan is to match on fandom as well as on character or relationship. That is, we intend to use the Character field in the tag set and signup form to specify either an individual character, a romantic / relationship, or a platonic & relationship.

We're also considering incorporating genre.

The numbers haven't yet been discussed, but I would expect a minimum of three fandoms and one or two characters/relationships per fandom for requests, and around four fandoms and one or two characters/relationships per fandom for offers.

I'll update the AO3 page with specifics as soon as we have them.

Any chance for a cheerleader signup post or something similar? I don't have any friends in the fandom I matched on and would love to be able to bounce my idea off someone.

Great idea! I'm pulling together a beta signup form similar to the one used for Yuletide, and I'm planning to include an option to select fandoms for which you're willing to offer cheerleading/brainstorming services. That should go up in a day or so.

Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere, I looked around for a bit and only found the requests sheet - is there going to be a treat sheet of authors who only have their assigned gift so far?

Hi! We did consider it, but so far there've only been one or two treats posted, so at this point the sheet would include almost everyone. :) If anyone is interested in putting such a spreadsheet together, though, you're more than welcome to do so!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it as much as we did! The exchange will be running in 2018. Based on feedback we received, it will likely be a few weeks later this year to avoid holidays and university schedules.

Hello, I was just wondering whether Fandom 5k was going to run again this year and, if so, what the schedule might be. I'm really looking forward to it if it does run!

It will be running this year! I need to consult with my comod on dates, but I'm hoping it will be on a similar schedule to last year.

A request: could you link the exchange rules somewhere in this post? I know you link to the general AO3 collection, but it's several more clicks to get to the rules (especially since I always forget where they are /o\).

Do Fandom5K treats also have to be 5k? And if I did write treats would I post them to Fandom Couch or directly to Fandom5K?

Treats of 5k and above go in the main collection, and anything under 5k goes in Fandom Couch.

Yes--both collections will remain open for treats even after works are revealed.

Completed works must be posted by the assignment due date (28 June). The work you turn in may be edited as much as you like between the due date and work reveals (19 July), but turning in an incomplete "placeholder" work that couldn't go live as-is and does not stand alone as a complete story/comic, or later editing your work so it does not fulfill the requirements, may be grounds for a permanent ban from the exchange.

Just to clarify, this means I can upload 5k by June 28th, as long as it's a story that can stand alone, but I am still allowed to substantially change stuff until July 19th? So in theory, by July, I could add 10 more chapters and make it a 30k fic, and that's fine?
