Welcome to Fandom 5K nominations, 2023 edition!

Nominations are open over here. We do not have any restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

Please note that for this year, we are using the Relationships fields and not Character fields. This changes how you nominate!

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:

• "Character: Character A (fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A on their own. AO3 may suggest a tag to you - please do not use it for nominations and instead nominate as above. 
• "Character A/Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B in a ship, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A & Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.
• "Character A (Fandom) & Character B (Fandom)" this means you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

For complicated franchises, please nominate according to the following guidelines:

• Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)" or "Dragon Age: Absolution".
• Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom. 
• Marvel Netflix series - these should all be nominated as "Defenders (TV)"
• Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
• X-Men films - as "X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)" and "X-Men (Original Timeline Movies)"
• Arrowverse - use "DC's Arrowverse" for Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow and Superman & Lois
• Marvel and DC Comics - as "Marvel (Comics)" and "DC Comics"

We are not familiar with every fandom, so we will be taking guidance from you as to how your fandoms work in terms of fandom tags, etc. Please watch this space for queries!

Can we nominate an established large group of characters, i.e. The Scooby Gang in / or & format, or should poly relationships/gen groups have each character listed?

You can nominate established groups, as long as it's very clear who would be included in that group given the fandom--we don't want confusion between requesters and offerers! However, to clarify whether you want a poly or a gen relationship, it's usually clearest if that incorporates another character (ie The Scooby Gang & Emile Mondavarious or The Scooby Gang/Emile Mondavarious).

If you only intend to nominate the group, we would recommend listing the characters with / or &, as appropriate. You can shorten to just first names, etc., if that is necessary.

Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom.

Would this also include characters who are in the MCU but have so far only appeared in the TV shows/specials and not in movies (e.g. Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Agents of SHIELD, Sylvie from the Loki series), or would you like those shows to be nominated individually?

We'd suggest that if the shows are a direct continuation of the movies, it would make sense to fold them into the movies, but if the shows are standalone, you can go ahead and nominate them separately. Does that work?

I'd like to add that Dragon Age has the absolution TV show now and would suggest changing the wording to Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)" and "Dragon Age: Absolution" separately :)

Yes, please! That's a known issue that sometimes occurs during approvals, and fortunately it's a quick fix.

Fandom Tag

I'm a little stuck on requesting as it's not bringing up the 'All Media Types' for a specific fandom, though the tag DOES exist. It's only bringing up the individual games for said franchise... But I'm wanting to make ships that have characters from two or three of the games in one tag (since they do crossover in places) and I'm wondering what I would do for this? Do I tag it under one of the games and tag the characters from other games as needed or? (because the game titles and ridiculously long and would use up all my letter count) or should I just try and type the 'all media types' myself or? ;-; I'm confused egg.

May I ask which game franchise you're looking at? It may be that the AMT has been changed to something else.

I think the AMT canonical tag equivalent for DR is "Dangan Ronpa series" - I'm nominating from SDR2 and I'd be happy to change it to Dangan Ronpa series, if that makes it easier for nominations?

I'm also nominating from Danganronpa S but since that's a canonical AU of the main storyline I feel like it should probably be its own thing, even if it technically falls under the series label.

We'll put the Danganronpa series up for discussion: in the past we've split it into the Hope's Peak Arc, the third game as a standalone nomination, and then Danganronpa S as a standalone nomination, but whether you guys want us to keep doing that is something we should discuss.

Hi! I have a few things I'd like clarified before I go ahead and nominate:

1. For nominating the Legend of Zelda series, would it be acceptable to nominate under "The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms?" Or should I go ahead and nominate the individual games? The last exchange I was in had us nominate the individual games, but the related fandoms tag was also used.

2. I want to nominate One Piece, but the only fandom tags are "One Piece (Anime & Manga)" and "One Piece." Should I go ahead and nominate the first tag? Or do we need to specify whether we're nominating the anime or manga? Not too sure how anime/manga noms go.

3. I'm considering nominating Final Fantasy VII, but have never nominated a Final Fantasy game before. How should I go about this?

1) For Zelda, individual titles or series that are in direct continuity with each other, please!

2) I know we've already sent through some nominations for One Piece, but the rule of thumb is pretty much that you only need to nominate the anime or manga separately if there are distinct differences between the two such that if you were requesting Sanji, for example, you wouldn't be blindsided by completely different characterisation. (I should mention I don't actually know if there are differences, I just know that Sanji is a character in One Piece.)

3) Final Fantasy VII is complicated because of the timeline shenanigans set up in FFVII: Remake. Which game(s) were you looking to nominate? More generally, Final Fantasy games are nominated individually with reference to their series.

Hey there! For the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series, should these fandoms be combined into Buffyverse (which is common in other exchanges) or should they be nominated separately?
