Just under 3 days to sign up!

In the meantime, I've been approving new fandom and character nominations. You may want to check the fandoms you're requesting or offering to see if something new and interesting has been added to the tag set. I'm also including a list of the newly-approved fandoms at the bottom of this post, in case that helps anyone find additional requests or offers.

Signups are about to open! As previously announced, I'll be clearing all nominations to allow everyone to nominate an additional 3 fandoms with up to 4 relationships each.

I have saved off details of all pending nominations where I have questions below. I'll add those to the tagset myself once I've clarified with the nominator.

Please also use this post to let me know if anything in the tagset looks incorrect, especially if you see duplicates.

I'm generally happy to approve this type of fandom if the various adaptations or spinoffs are in continuity with one another. However, there are cases where adaptations are different enough that it could lead to disappointment if a creator familiar with one version gets matched to recipient interested the other. (ETA due to questions--RPF is generally fine! Historical RPF subjects I will not approve include people known primarily for committing things like war crimes, genocide, or slavery. Please feel free to ask if you're not sure.)

I'm happy to approve original characters on a pretty broad spectrum of specificity, but these nominations seem too general to me. It might help to have a look at the approved tags under Original Work and see some examples. If you need some help, please comment, and we can workshop these nominations a bit.

Political RPF - US 19th c. and Political RPF - US 20th c.
While I don't have preexisting rules around RPF nominations, I've given some consideration to these slates and decided I don't feel prepared to handle the implied subject matter as a solo moderator, so I won't be approving them.

This may be inconsistent with my decision to approve the Political RPF - US 21st c. ships, but those feel different to me for satirical purposes. Also, anything that would make Martha-Ann Alito wave her Vergogna flag seems like a net positive.


Ready or Not (Movies) and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
I'd like to combine these nominations; any concerns?


Star Trek: The Original Series (Movies)

Welcome to Fandom 5K nominations, 2026 and final edition!

Nominations are open over here. They will close on April 1st for cleanup and will re-open during signups. Note that I will probably clear existing nominations when the form re-opens, so if you want to keep track of exactly what you nominated, please save the list for your own purposes.

There are no restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

Fandom5K does not allow Creator's Choice of Fandom.

Large franchise fandoms continue to get more and more complicated! I'm going to hold off on those approvals for a few days to see if we need to make changes to past year's guidelines. Below is what we did last year. If you plan to nominate in these fandoms, please discuss either keeping as-is or doing something that makes more sense to you in the comments:
  • Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)" or "Dragon Age: Absolution".
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom. Relationships between movie-only and TV-only characters should be nominated as crossovers.
  • Marvel Netflix series - early series should all be nominated as "Defenders (TV)"; others should be nominated under the individual series
  • Star Wars - please nominate films in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.; nominate TV under separate titles
  • X-Men films - as "X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)" and "X-Men (Original Timeline Movies)"
  • Arrowverse - use "DC's Arrowverse" for Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow and Superman & Lois, etc.

Thanks to all who have replied to nominations queries or alerted me to errors in the tagset! I'm hoping to resolve a few more items before signups open later today--the more we can fix now, the easier signups will be. Please let me know if you see any other problems.

I will be clearing nominations at the start of signups, then reopening them to allow everyone to nominate an additional 3 fandoms with 4 characters or relationships during signups. I'll make a note of any unapproved nominations with unresolved queries at that time and will add the tags myself once the nominators reply to those queries.

Speaking of which!

Two new items:
  • Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Original Series (Movies): Apologies, I approved without noticing this potential duplicate! Are these distinct fandoms? My understanding is the movies are in continuity with the show and they are often combined, but if it makes sense to leave them separate, I'm happy to do so.
  • Warhammer 40.000 and Warhammer 40k (Novels) - Various Authors: if you nominated one of these fandoms, please check the tagset to confirm your chosen tags are in the correct fandom. There were some oddities with disambiguation and wandering relationships, and I think I've resolved them correctly, but please let me know if they're wrong.

  • For Aegon Targaryen/Aemond "One-Eye" Targaryen (HotD) and Aegon Targaryen/Aemond "One-Eye" Targaryen/Helaena Targaryen (HotD), is this specifically Aegon II Targaryen and not Aegon III? If I don't hear otherwise, I will assume you mean Aegon II.
  • Character: Cannibal the Wild Dragon (HotD): Can someone confirm that Cannibal has appeared in the show?
Hunger Games Series - All Media Types:
  • We already have nominations for the book trilogy and for Sunrise on the Reaping as their own fandoms. Can you please specify whether you're looking for the books or the films?
Marvel Cinematic Universe, WandaVision:
  • We have nominations for Wanda/Vision under both MCU and WandaVision, as well as Agatha Harkness & Wanda Maximoff under the MCU I've heard from the person who nominated Wanda/Vision under the show and is fine with combining it into the MCU. Can the Wanda/Agatha nominator let me know if they have a strong preference for keeping the fandoms separate?

12 hours to nominate! And questions for nominators

The tagset will close in a little over 12 hours! Here's a countdown.

It may stay open a little longer at my discretion, and I'll continue to sort out issues and questions after it's closed.

I'm sorry it's taking longer than usual for approvals--I'm running solo this year as CBMod takes a well-earned break, and I've also been encountering frequent errors with the nominations page. These errors have meant some manual cleanup. Please check your nominations and let me know if you see any problems, particularly tags winding up in the wrong fandom, as I had to do some of those associations myself.

I have some questions for nominators! Please include a link to your nominations page in your response, so I can make sure I'm hearing directly from the nominators when needed.

Hello, all! We seem to have run into some odd behavior with the Crossover Fandom nominations, where anything submitted to that fandom will be auto-rejected. I have some idea how this happened, but there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. I'll report this issue to AO3, but in order to keep things moving, please submit your crossover nominations to the following fandom instead:

Nominations for this new fandom should follow the same guidelines as usual:

  • "Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

Howl's Moving Castle - All Media Types - we have both the film and the book in the tagset. Can you specify which version you want?

Wiedźmin | The Witcher - All Media Types - we also have nominations for the TV series and video games. Could you please specify which version you’re interested in?

Brave (2012), Cinderella (Disney Animated Movies), and The Little Mermaid (Disney Animated Movies) - The relationships for these fandoms are all crossovers between different Disney movies. Please leave a comment with your nominations page so we can resolve this.

We have received nominations for Any Fandom I've Requested Before and Any Fandom I've Requested for F5K Before. Our concern with these fandoms is that including them in the regular tagset and allowing them for offers risks a situation where an author could match on someone whose fandoms they don’t know or aren’t willing to write.

As a result, we plan not to approve these fandoms before signups begin. However, after signups close, we are happy to add them to the tagset, and then we can add them to any participant’s requests if they contact us, to make them available as an extra option to their assigned author or treaters or to a possible pinch hitter.

Nominations are open over here. We do not have any restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

Please note that for this year, we are using the Relationships fields and not Character fields. This changes how you nominate!

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:
