Welcome to Fandom 5K nominations, 2025 edition!

Nominations are open over here. They will close on May 1st for cleanup, but this year I am planning to re-open the tagset for nominations during signups as well.

There are no restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:

• "Character: Character A (fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A on their own. AO3 may suggest a tag to you - please do not use it for nominations and instead nominate as above. 
• "Character A/Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B in a ship, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A & Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.
• "Character A (Fandom) & Character B (Fandom)" this means you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

For complicated franchises, please nominate according to the following guidelines. If you have concerns about any of these guidelines, or questions about other franchises, please comment:

• Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)" or "Dragon Age: Absolution".
• Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom. Relationships between movie-only and TV-only characters should be nominated as crossovers.
• Marvel Netflix series - these should all be nominated as "Defenders (TV)"
• Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
• X-Men films - as "X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)" and "X-Men (Original Timeline Movies)"
• Arrowverse - use "DC's Arrowverse" for Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow and Superman & Lois
• Marvel and DC Comics - as "Marvel (Comics)" and "DC Comics"

I am not familiar with every fandom or up-to-date on the needs of every franchise, so I will be taking guidance from you as to how your fandoms work in terms of fandom tags, etc. Please watch this space for queries!

Can we nominate Character A/Character B & Character C type relationships? Or just A/B and A & B?

Hello! CCoF isn't allowed for Fandom5K. We did consider it in previous years but decided that for an exchange without detailed freeform matching, 5,000 words is a lot of story to receive for a fandom you may not know.

Movie Sequel Nomination Question

Hi! I nominated the movie The Accountant (2016). However, the sequel (named very originally The Accountant 2) just premiered in theaters this week. I am specifically interested in requesting and offering fic for the canon of the entire duology, but went with the canon tag, which is still just for the first movie.*

I'm realizing it might be better to adjust the fandom tag - would it be possible to change the tag to "The Accountant (Movies)" or "The Accountant (Movies 2016 2025)"?


*I understand not everyone might have seen the sequel yet and may not be able to write/want to read about both. I just don't want to actively exclude the sequel from what's being nominated.

Hunger Games Book Series

Do you have any guidance on how to nominate the Hunger Games book series? The AO3 canonical is The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins, but there have been two tie-in novels published as well (The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, published in 2020, and Sunrise on the Reaping, published this March), with several characters who appear in both the tie-ins and the main series, and the tie-ins provide additional context to events referred to in the main series. Would the fandom The Hunger Games Series - Suzanne Collins (or The Hunger Games Books - Suzanne Collins) be an acceptable nomination if I want to nominate characters from both the main trilogy and the tie-ins, or should they be kept separate?

Nominating the series is fine! If I have any nominations for the trilogy or the tie-ins separately, I may add the books to a query post for discussion, so you may want to keep an eye out.

Those weren't mine - I haven't gotten round to putting them in yet, but knowing that others have separated them I can nominate mine separately as well to save on having to re-arrange nominations later, and then say in my optional details that I'm fine with incorporating events and characters from the other parts of canon.

Ha! It's "Creator's Choice of Fandom", which is used in some exchanges when a recipient is particularly interested in a trope or other aspect of a gift and is willing to receive it in any fandom.

MCU/Thunderbolts

Hi! I just nominated some ships from the movie Thunderbolts that is coming out this week. I nominated them under the fandom Marvel Cinematic Universe but disambiguated with Thunderbolts ... that was probably wrong, though, I assume? Could you let me know if you prefer them to be disambiguated simply with MCU?

Thank you, that works! It shouldn't matter too much either way, but MCU is a bit more consistent with other disambigs (and shorter :) )
