Welcome to Fandom 5K nominations, 2024 edition!

Nominations are open over here. We do not have any restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom Crossover Fandom Relationships tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:

• "Character: Character A (fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A on their own. AO3 may suggest a tag to you - please do not use it for nominations and instead nominate as above. 
• "Character A/Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B in a ship, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A & Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, inside their own fandom.
• "Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.
• "Character A (Fandom) & Character B (Fandom)" this means you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

For complicated franchises, please nominate according to the following guidelines. If you have concerns about any of these guidelines, or questions about other franchises, please comment:

• Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)" or "Dragon Age: Absolution".
• Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom. 
• Marvel Netflix series - these should all be nominated as "Defenders (TV)"
• Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
• X-Men films - as "X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)" and "X-Men (Original Timeline Movies)"
• Arrowverse - use "DC's Arrowverse" for Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow and Superman & Lois
• Marvel and DC Comics - as "Marvel (Comics)" and "DC Comics"

We are not familiar with every fandom, so we will be taking guidance from you as to how your fandoms work in terms of fandom tags, etc. Please watch this space for queries!

Hi! Just wondering that for the DC comics fandom, the canon tag for that on AO3 is worded as "DCU (Comics)", which is what I've seen most exchanges go with. Just to make sure, do you mean for us to use the canonical "DCU (comics)" or should we use "DC Comics" verbatim as is written in this post?

Hello! Please go ahead and use DC Comics--it doesn't matter that much, but sometimes canonicals for sprawling franchises are more likely to cause wandering character/relationship tags.

Hello, I tried to nominate some crossover ships from different Star Wars series but both the Crossover Fandom category and the nominations were rejected. Could you please explain why these were auto-rejected?

Yes, feel free, as long as the category (such as "Antagonist") is clear for the fandom in question, so the people requesting and offering that tag will have the same expectation of what characters would fit.

I've nominated the fandom Henry Danger with the character Buddy Fudgers. Buddy is introduced on HD with his superhero name Lil' Dynamite, but not given his civilian name until the spinoff series Danger Force.

Would you like this treated as a crossover, or is it fine as is?

Hello! If you're hoping to include elements of Danger Force characterization--which it sounds like you are--I would recommend nominating under Crossover Fandom Relationships, or you could nominate both shows as the same continuity if it makes sense to do so.

Nominating as the same continuity makes the best sense for these shows, considering the amount of overlap between them.

Is "Henry Danger Universe" a sufficient label? There isn't an existing overarching name to use, though everything that would be included starts from the Henry Danger show.

Question: What would be the best way to nominate RPF of modern celebrities who don't necessarily share a profession? So say a musician and an actor, an actor and a model, etc. Would the fandom being Celebrity RPF be acceptable?

Hello! Celebrity RFP is fine, unless we wind up with a lot of conflicting/overlapping fandom nominations. If that does occur, I may add this to the clarifications post so the various nominators can discuss what subdivisions make sense, but you can go ahead with the broader fandom for now.

Question for crossovers:
1) can we request only 10 crossover ships, or is it possible to request Crossover Fandom Relationships twice for additional slots?
2) how are crossovers counted for minimum on fandoms per request? Assuming I'd ask for a variety of source canons, could I make a crossover-only sign-up?
2a) if not, does this exchange allow signing up with below minimum fandoms, understanding that in that case I'm not guaranteed a gift?

Hello! You can request up to 10 ships in each fandom--AO3 doesn't let you reuse the fandoms.

Small question for clarification, does "Crossover Fandom Relationships" count as an unique fandom even if it overlaps with one of the other requested fandoms? E.g. if I were to request Peter Parker (MCU)/Anthony DiNozzo (NCIS), and my other 2 requests were for MCU and for White Collar, would those be counted as three unique fandoms or would I need a non-overlapping fandom?

Crossover Fandom counts as a single fandom for your requests, so that does make three unique fandoms for these purposes!
