Welcome to Fandom 5K nominations, 2020 edition!

Nominations are open over here. We do not have any restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandom tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:
  • "Character A (fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A on their own. AO3 may suggest a tag to you - please do not use it for nominations and instead nominate as above. Save your mods and help prevent tag migration!
  • "Group: Character A/Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B in a ship, inside their own fandom.
  • "Group: Character A & Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, inside their own fandom.
  • "Group: Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.
  • "Group: Character A (Fandom) & Character B (Fandom)" this means you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

For complicated franchises, please nominate according to the following guidelines:
  • Dragon Age - nominate as "Dragon Age (Video Games)"
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe - please only nominate characters who have appeared in the movies into this fandom
  • Marvel Netflix series - these should all be nominated as "Defenders (TV)"
  • Star Wars - please nominate in terms of "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy", "Star Wars Original Trilogy", "Star Wars Sequel Trilogy" etc.
  • X-Men films - as "X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies)" and "X-Men (Original Timeline Movies)"
  • Arrowverse - use "DC's Arrowverse" for Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and Legends of Tomorrow
  • Marvel and DC Comics - as "Marvel (Comics)" and "DC Comics"

We are not familiar with every fandom, so we will be taking guidance from you as to how your fandoms work in terms of fandom tags, etc. Please watch this space for queries!

For Arrowverse, how do you want it's extreme expansion handled?

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths they pulled a lot more into it. Black Lightning, Batman (1966), Superman Returns, Birds of Prey (TV show), Lucifer, Smallville, Flash (90s), Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Star Girl, Batman (Burton/Schumacher), and the DCEU are all part of the Arrowverse now. Flash (90s), Superman Returns, and Black Lightning are all very plot relevant with Black Lightning explicitly becoming a founding member of a Justice League like organization. Smallville and Lucifer both impact the plot, but not as much as the first three. The rest are mostly cameos, some bigger than the others.

My personal opinion is that the Arrowverse fandom consists of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow, and that for the others the characters who appeared in the crossover or are explicitly named could be nominated in Arrowverse, but the base fandoms wouldn't be folded in.

Hi!

Excited for this. Minor note - the text about says "Crossover Fandoms" but the tag set currently has "Crossover Fandom". Which is preferred? Thanks!

Crossover Fandom is the correct one. Thank you for bringing that to our attention!

Can we nominate collectives of characters, e.g. "Group: Harry Potter & Hogwarts students" if we have no preferences about which Hogwarts students we want to see Harry interact with? Would "Group: Harry Potter & Hogwarts students of author's choice" be a better way of phrasing it? Or should we name specific Hogwarts students?

Excellent, thank you! And thanks for the phrasing suggestion :D

Group: Cara Dune & Leia Organa (The Mandalorian)

This tag is currently under The Mandalorian, but Leia doesn't appear in that show. This should probably go in Crossover Fandom and be reworded to Group: Cara Dune (Mandalorian) & Leia Organa (XXX). Not sure which version of Star Wars the nominator wanted.

Thank you for bringing that to our attention - we've put that into the next queries post.

Can I nominate "Narrator(s) (Album Title)" if the number of narrators across the various songs is open to interpretation? Specifically, it would be part of a crossover, so could I do "Group: Narrator (Album 1) & Narrator(s) (Album 2)"?

More tag wandering!

John Constantine (DC comics) Appears in movies under “Constantine (2005)”

It’s already listed under DC comics so not sure if it duplicated itself into the movies section as well, haha.

So I nominated these but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask before you comb through my noms, are mixed groups okay?

By that I mean like, "Character A/Character B & Character C". If they're not I can totally change my nominations, I've just seen it around in other exchanges and find it very useful.

FYI there is a slightly different nomination setup listed in the profile page of Fandom5K on AO3 that may be confusing. It doesn't say to include "Group:" before the groups/ships.

I am wanting to write for a crossover which is one part fandom and the other part RPF and I'm unsure how to format that in my nom.
Should I structure it something like this? Patrick "Kitten" Braden (Breakfast on Pluto) / Ville Valo (HIM RPF)? lol this is the first time I've ever nominated a fandom with an RPF fandom I like.
