Welcome to the second round of Fandom 5k, and specifically to the nominations phase!

Nominations are open over here. We do not have any restrictions on what can be nominated in terms of fandom size, type, and so forth, and we also allow crossovers and original fandoms to be nominated. Please nominate crossover relationships into the Crossover Fandoms tag, and original characters and relationships into the Original Work tag.

In terms of how to nominate characters versus relationships, please follow the format below:
  • "Character A (fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A on their own. AO3 may suggest a tag to you - please do not use it for nominations and instead nominate as above. Save your mods and help prevent tag migration!
  • "Group: Character A/Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B in a ship, inside their own fandom.
  • "Group: Character A & Character B" - this means that you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, inside their own fandom.
  • "Group: Character A (Fandom)/Character B (Fandom)" - this means that you are nominating Character A/Character B shipfic, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.
  • "Group: Character A (Fandom) & Character B (Fandom)" this means you are nominating Character A and Character B in a gen configuration, and that it is a crossover. Please be specific about fandoms, especially if there are a lot of adaptations featuring Character A and/or Character B.

We are not familiar with every fandom! As such, we will be taking guidance from you as to how your fandoms work in terms of fandom tags etc. Please watch this space for queries!

Are mixed nominations allowed, so Group: A & B/C (Fandom)? or would it be preferable to go for one, say A & B and only indicate an openness to B/C as a pairing also showing up in the additional details?

Can we nominate characters who don't have names and don't appear on screen in the canon but nevertheless are known to have existed? So OCs in fandoms that aren't Original Works, in the style of Parent of Child Enslaved After [Canon Event] (Fandom) where it's canonical that such enslavements happened but the characters themselves are not named and don't appear on-screen?

We're talking it over and should have answers soon--thank you for asking!

Yes to both of those! Go forth and nominate. :)

There is a typo in one of the Rivers of London nominations. Sarha Guleed is actually Sahra Guleed.

Fixed! Thanks for calling that to our attention.

There are either a LOT more Gen nominations than I'm used to seeing which is great OR nominators are not carefully following your directions and nominating characters separately.

So far, it looks like most approved nominations are group ones, but anyone who nominated individual characters accidentally is welcome to let us know, as long as they can provide links to their nominations page!

Hello!

When convenient, would you please link the tag set to the challenge? I realise this isn't urgent, and isn't necessary until you set up the matching parameters, but it makes it much more convenient to read the rules and then click on the tag set.

Thanks.

No problem--done!

Thanks a bunch!

Is it okay to nominate 3-way relationships? Say, character A/character B/character C or Character A & Character B & Character C?
Thursday, March 15th, 2018 04:01 am (UTC)
LOL, never mind, it looks like the answer is yes based on existing nominations?
Friday, March 16th, 2018 04:50 am (UTC)
Yep, you're good to go. Nominate away!

Could you please change the Sci-fi/Fantasy tag so that it includes canon versions of those elements, not just AUs?

Hi - possibly you've already considered this and I'm missing something? But if not, please avoid approving tags in the format "Character: X" - ie, single-char noms that actually have the word 'character' in them? If you approve them in this format in the relationships field, it may make it harder for other exchanges that are trying to put characters in a relationships field and distinguish them with such a method, as it will not be possible approve a unique string in one field that was already approved in a different field in a different tag set.

Thanks.

Additional notes - I believe both Crazyhead and Anthony Horowitz's Moriarty book will appear in their wrangled fandom categories if altered to Crazyhead (TV) and Moriarty - Anthony Horowitz, respectively. I'm not 100% sure about Moriarty, since the Archive canonical is for the overal series ("Sherlock Holmes Series - Anthony Horowitz"), but there's already a work tagged with Moriarty - Anthony Horowitz, and clicking on the tag gets a syn to the series.

Can we nominate original characters in fandom ships? i.e. Named Character/OFC?

I spotted minor spelling issue under Wynonna Earp -- I think Group: Rosita Bustillos/Wynnona Earp should be Group: Rosita Bustillos/Wynonna Earp. (The canonical tag is wrong as well, go figure.)

Thanks!
